COSTA MESA, California - August 1, 2000 - Marlene Moster, M.D., the world-respected glaucoma specialist from Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, published her "5 Tips for Success with Tutoplast Pericardium" in the June 2000 issue of Review of Ophthalmology.

IOPatch™ Tutoplast Processed Pericardium, an immunologically-safe, solvent dehydrated human tissue, is employed by surgeons worldwide as a patch graft in glaucoma implant/valve surgery. Tutoplast Pericardium, given its well-documented advantages to eye-bank sclera, has been employed as the surgical standard since 1996.

According to the article, Dr. Moster's five tips for success are:

1. Opt for double thickness
2. Keep the Tutoplast dry while trimming
3. Prepare the surgical site/Place Tutoplast directly on the host sclera
4. Pre-place a suture for ease of attachment
5. Watch the placement: Cut the posterior part of the pericardium anterior to where the tube inserts into the plate.

Dr. Moster also states in the article: “I began using IOP, Inc.'s Tutoplast processed pericardium as an alternative to eye-banked sclera. With a shelf life of five years, this allograft offered me the tremendous advantages of ease of availability and total sterility.”

Dr. Moster is an attending surgeon on the Glaucoma Service at Wills Eye Hospital and is in private practice. She is also an associate professor of ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University.
