COSTA MESA, California - October 1, 2000 - TBI/Tissue
Banks International, the world's largest non-profit eye and
tissue banking network, has announced the establishment of
an exclusive agreement with IOP, Inc. to distribute its VisionGraft®
amniotic membrane to ophthalmologists throughout the United
States.
Initially clinically detailed by physicians in the 1940's,
the use of human amniotic membrane by ophthalmologists to
surgically treat ocular surface disorders has been revived
during the past decade. More than fifty articles have been
published detailing this tissue's use in treating devastating
conditions and abnormalities like Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome,
corneal ulceration, ocular perforations and ocular chemical
burns.
"Our entire organization is ecstatic and proud of our
strategic partnership with TBI, " said Erich Ziegler,
Director of Product Development of IOP, Inc. "Teaming
the tissue banking leadership of TBI with our dedication to
and focus in the use of biologics in ophthalmic surgery is
ideal. We are boundlessly optimistic about this opportunity
to progress the treatment of grave, sight-threatening conditions."
Amniotic membrane is an exclusive VisionGraft® service
of Tissue Banks International. IOP, Inc. will be distributing
the amniotic membrane under the trademark, AmnioCV.
Several sizes will be available in both frozen and freeze-dried
configurations. IOP, Inc. will be introducing AmnioCV
at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Dallas,
October 19th through 25th 2000.
IOP, Inc. is committed to improving the quality of life of
people worldwide
.to elevating surgical performance
