COSTA MESA, California - October 1, 2000 - In a unique
course of events, Daniel Wenske, a career Board Certified
Ocularist from San Antonio, recently chose the use of the
M-Sphere
Cancellous Bone Orbital Implant for his own orbital reconstruction
surgery.
Kenneth Piest, M.D., a leading oculoplastic surgeon from
San Antonio, performed the enucleation surgery and M-Sphere
implantation on Mr. Wenske on September 3rd at North Baptist
Hospital.
Mr. Wenske has been anophthalmic for several years. His original
plastic orbital implant extruded and had not been replaced
until now. Given his role as an ocularist (a professional
manufacturer of artificial cosmetic eyes), Mr. Wenske has
seen many anophthalmic patients over the years and every type
of orbital implant technology available. He has been able
to personally observe the advantages and disadvantages of
these implant options.
The advantages of cancellous bone as an orbital implant encouraged
him to have his own surgery performed with the M-Sphere.
"The M-Sphere is performing above and beyond my
expectations," stated Wenske three weeks after surgery.
"I have already fitted myself with a temporary prosthesis
..
weeks ahead of schedule."
M-Sphere Orbital Implants are antigen-free, cancellous
bone spheres providing a lightweight, thorough architecture
of mineral composition. Many leading oculoplastic surgeons
worldwide believe that the M-Sphere is the ideal implant
material for enucleation and evisceration surgeries. The M-Sphere
is supported by almost 30 years of clinical safety and efficacy.
